SCHMIZO AG is an owner-managed SME that has been existing since 1949. The company has built its core competence in the development and manufacture of customized glass equipment and glass apparatus. As a technical glassblowing company, the strength of the company lies in an above-average quality standard, as well as in direct and competent contact with customers in research, pharmaceuticals and industry. The broadly based team of employees consists of fifteen people. In addition to its expertise in the classic craft of technical glassblowing, SCHMIZO AG also has extensive machinery for the mechanical precision processing of borosilicate glass.
The company GLASTECHNIK RAHM GmbH, based in Muttenz near Basel, is similar to SCHMIZO AG in terms of the products and services it offers, but unfortunately a stroke of fate suddenly changed a great deal when the company’s founder and owner Werner Rahm succumbed to cancer on February 4, 2020. However, Mr. Rahm had set the course for the future development of his business at an early stage, and already at the end of 2019 an agreement was concluded with Ernst Schneeberger, the owner of SCHMIZO AG, according to which SCHMIZO AG will take over the activities of GLASTECHNIK RAHM GmbH as of mid-2020.
The transitional period of several months for merging the joint activities was used to build up the capacity adjustments required for the additional volume at the SCHMIZO AG site in Oftringen. An extension created space for two additional workplaces in production. A new position was also added in administration to strengthen order processing, production planning and quality assurance.
In the meantime, this work has been completed, the premises at the GLASTECHNIK RAHM GmbH site in Muttenz have been dismantled, and all activities are concentrated at the SCHMIZO AG site in Oftringen. This combination secures both experience and expertise. This is because, in addition to the machines and production equipment, the core of the Rahm workforce has also moved to SCHMIZO AG.
The business with merchandise, especially the products of NORMAG Labor- und Prozesstechnik GmbH Ilmenau, will not be taken over by SCHMIZO AG.
